El Boqueron - Tapas that Reign

El Boqueron - 31-01 34th Avenue, Astoria, NY 11106

N/W Train to Broadway

Although I love me some good tapas, I wasn’t overly excited about coming here at first. Living in this neighborhood last year, I passed El Boqueron many times, unimpressed by its bland exterior. But when I finally did decide to give it a try, my first impressions were flipped upside the head. The cuisine is impeccable—tasty but not overpowering—offering true Spanish tapas that are high quality and worth the extra bucks. Some of my tips when dining here:

1. Come here with a significant other for a special occasion—the atmosphere is tastefully festive
2. Instead of ordering a large entrĂ©e, try a variety of hot and cold tapas—you’ll still enjoy a satisfying meal and get to try many things
3. Do order the sangria—they put real fruit in it and none of that plastic maraschino cherry stuff
4. The chorizo and the chicken croquettes are a must in my book—the latter dish is also one that’s fairly priced

  1. If you're looking for an honest review, I wouldn't
return to this restaurant. The food was sparse,
over-cooked and over-priced. With only 2 other patrons, the service was lacking. This place had
come highly recommended, but my friends (6 of us)
and I were all very disappointed.
