Petey's Burger - Getting Closer?

Petey's Burger - 30th Avenue and 30th Street, Astoria, NY 11102

If you live in the area, then you probably know that Petey’s has yet to open its doors. If you’re on Petey’s mailing list then you probably kind of sort of know why it has yet to open its doors.

In a recent e-mail from Petey he informs us that apparently there’s nothing holding back the opening, aside from the usual stuff. You know, getting ConEd to show up and having New York City inspect and approve the site. All those rumors about not having enough money seem to be false. Petey’s Burger is ready to go, just waiting patiently for its chance. According Petey, “the burgers are great, the fries are great,” and he can’t wait to have us as his guests. And with all this anticipation, I’m looking forward to taking him up on that.

Until then, if you want some more updates on Petey’s Burger sign up for the mailing list at http://www.peteysburger.com/

Anyway, unrelated but I’m going to be out of town this weekend so this may be my last post. If so, thanks for reading, and I’m sure I’ll be back. Otherwise, I’m pretty excited for the Foodista’s return, and if I know her well enough (and I think I do), she probably can’t wait to get back to foodista-ing. Talk to you later kids.

  3. I ate there tonight, here's the run down:

I ordered the cheese burger meal (cheese burger, fries, can of soda), grilled cheese, fries and a strawberry milkshake.

    The good:
Strawberry shake with real strawberries. Very good burger with everything included. Small menu (this is especially appealing because just about every place in Astoria has 30+ items on their menu).

    The bad:
Petey's Veggie is NOT a veggie burger. It is more like a cheese sandwich with lettuce, onion and tomato. Luckily the manager let me know this before taking my order. He also told me they may introduce a real veggie burger in the future.

The fries were not very good, even though they're "hand cut" fresh. I would compare them to late night, stale McDonald's fries.

    Final Verdict:
Go with the burgers and shakes, I wouldn't bother with anything else.

  4. Great synopsis Jake--thank you. I have to check it out real soon and am eager to try the burger. Disappointing to hear about the fries though. Do they have black and white shakes? My favorite...

  5. They offer vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. They also will let you specify the shake thickness, which I think is a nice touch.
