A little while ago, I noticed Lucas Steakhouse, a new restaurant on 35th Avenue and 32nd street that's said to open soon. I've been watching it for a couple of months now and haven't seen much progress. The owners of this steakhouse also run Locale just around the corner on 34th Avenue. I called them to inquire about Lucas' opening and they mentioned about 3-4 weeks--we'll see.
A new, modern steakhouse will be a welcome addition the neighborhood, as there currently aren't many with the exception of Christos but that's more on the traditional side. Judging from the cool, sophisticated feel of Locale, I think that Lucas will also embody some of these qualities. The Locale website has minimal information about it and calls Lucas an "intimate steakhouse with all the luxuries you would expect from a fine Manhattan steakhouse. Serving USDA prime beef, dry aged to perfection."
That certainly sounds good. I'll report back when I have more information and a menu.

I noticed the same thing. Didn't look like much progress then all of a sudden...
ReplyDeleteAnd what about Dutch Kills tonight as well? No one thought that was ever going to open either. Weird.
I hope it opens soon - it looks really cool! And I like Locale so hopefully that's a sign for good things to come at Lucas.
ReplyDeleteI went to Lucas last night and had an outstanding meal, starting with wine and a roasted mushroom soup and ending with a profiterole drizzled in chocolate and caramel.
ReplyDeleteThe food and service is top-notch leaving you feeling satisfied and pampered.
The intimate atmosphere has a variety of seating from bar, to table to booth, and the large windows keep it open and spacious.
I can't wait to go back and try more of the other fare.
Wow, that sounds great Joseph. Was it an expensive meal? I'd definitely like to try it soon.
ReplyDeleteI live just down the street from this place and it seems to be doing quite well. They have even added a few tables and chairs outside. We ate there during the "soft opening" and have been back two more times. We like it that much. I will concede the prices are not at all cheap. But, for the service and quality of food, it's not as though you don't get what you pay for. Finally, the wine selection is outstanding; even the dessert wines are worth noting. If you go by, you'll enjoy.
ReplyDeleteGlad that Lucas is doing well. I'm still really curious about it but need just the perfect night to shell out all that dough. Especially during these challenging times, it's hard to drop so much cash in one night. Know what I mean?
ReplyDeleteI TOTALLY understand the cash part of the dining equation. If nothing else, stop by for the molten chocolate cake with grenache center - it's out of this world! Sorry to sound like an advert. No connection to the good folks and Locale / Lucas, I just really like both.
ReplyDeleteI meant "chocolate ganache" not "chocolate grenache." Oppsie.
ReplyDeleteGotcha - I'll have to try it one of these days. Thanks for the plug :)
