Luna de Juarez is featuring a weekend Mexican Brunch Buffet for $9.95. I've been here twice for dinner and the food is solid--I prefer the traditional tacos and enchiladas vs. some of the more inventive dishes but overall, the quality of food is good. Below are the specifics of this deal - check it out.

ReplyDeleteHi Foodista,
ReplyDeleteI was there a few a couple months ago. I had passed it many times and finally decided to go for dinner one night. I have no desire to go back. The atmosphere is nice and the service was good, so it's a shame that the food was so lousy.
The margarita was like drinking a glass of sugar, not refreshing at all. The rice and beans which are served on a plate separate from your entree were lukewarm at best and the entrees themselves were very average.
My dining companion had soup which was very, very salty salty. She adds handfuls of salt to everything she eats so for her to say it was too salty is almost unbelievable. I tasted it and it really was salty, so salty it was unappetizing. If I had eaten a bowl of that soup I would have had to stop off for a gallon of water on the way home.
I had a chicken enchilada. Again, it was not hot enough, though not as cold as the rice and beans. The enchilada was ok, nothing special but not terrible. It was edible but it wasn’t really good. Edible is not the way you describe good food.
When we got home we both started to experience a lot of indigestion. A lot! We both felt really bad! Both of us have a good constitution, eat many different types of food from all over the world and are not prone to upset stomach. It was not fun and it ruined an already lousy meal.
I don’t know anyone else who has ever gone there or if my experience was unique, but my experience was terrible from the time the margarita arrived to the next morning when I still felt “ehhh…”. If you want good Mexican food in Queens, there are other alternatives that are light years better than Luna de Juarez.
Aaron
I hear you Aaron. The first time that I went there I didn't love it but I gave it a second change and it changed my perception. I'd encourage you to try it one more time. But I understand also if you are too turned off - it happens...
ReplyDeleteHey Foodista-
ReplyDeleteLooks like Aaron had a tough time there.
Either way you are on my Daily blurb today
www.beyondburritos.com
I would also encourage to try a second time.
ReplyDeleteAn experience of such can put someone off but the kitchen can have its off days too and I am a firm believer in giving a second chance. Aaron if you choose to return I'll join you for a beer let me know. My experience has been that the food has improved tremendously since they have opened.
The foodista gives us a great forum to share input which good or bad are always good to hear.

Thanks Foodista for all your tips> I went last night to Luna De Juarez and the experience was great!. My favorite so far was the Salsa Verde Enchiladas.. I am Mexican and it tasted like my moms enchiladas! The margaritas were just great not to mention the Ceviche, so unique with its avocados and the pico de gallo
ReplyDeleteAlicia Mondrago
Great Alicia - I'm so happy that you had a good experience there!
ReplyDeleteFrom to time we give Luna more tries, but sadly too often it disappoints and in a big way. Mostly the travesty is the service even more than the food.
ReplyDeleteIt is encouraging to hear some are still finding positive evenings there. But I feel more confident at most other places in Astoria.
ps love this blog and jealous of your stomach
haha thanks!
