El*Ay*Si "Pay What You Want" Tasting this Friday

There's been a lot of buzz about the upcoming LIC comfort food joint, El*Ay*Si. Besides the clever name, which pays homage to this wonderful neighborhood, they're extending a preview tasting to anyone who responds on Facebook.

The night promises interest and intrigue, as you'll be the first to sample Chef Christopher Frakes' comfort creations. You can bring your own bottle of wine--gotta love BYOB--and donations are not required but suggested. It's basically a "pay what you want" deal. Sounds great to me! Spots are going very fast but there are still seats for the Friday night tasting. Here are the deets:

  3. Alan, I think you'll have to be the judge - it's really subjective. If you feel that you got good service and excellent food, tip generously. If you feel that it was sub-par, well...then it's up to you how much you think the experience was worth.

  4. Gar, I don't know exactly what's on the menu but here are some menu items that I spied on their Facebook page. Again, not sure if they are serving these for the tasting this weekend but it should give you a general idea about their cuisine:

Apps: Tequila, lime grilled shrimp; beef wrap with chimichurri sauce

Mains: Spicy fried chicken; whole grilled fish of the day; dijon crusted flank steak; pan roasted halibut with blood orange salsa

Sides: Jalapeno sweet corn fritters; caramelized apples; spicy sweet potato wedges; roasted corn on the cob

  5. Did you get some sort of confirmation when you RSVP'd for this event? Just wondering b/c I didn't receive anything so not sure if that means it's too late. Thanks!

  6. You don't get a confirmation but you could see that you are listed under "responded" in Facebook. They don't email you anything.
