Could it be? Yes, it could. Moonstruck is coming to our hood - maybe tooonight. Ok, so this recent stomach virus has made me a little kooky (or I have a bad case of cabin fever). Anyway, on my way to dinner the other night, I noticed that the old Cafe Kolonaki space has finally got a new tenant - Moonstruck Diner, which has several locations in Manhattan. I've tried it on occassion and while it's not anything to brag to your mother about, their dishes are simple and consistent - and they serve a 24 hour breakfast, like all good diners. I remember eating there when being out late in the city and having an intense craving for an omelet. They make a good one. I hope Astoria's new location is just as dependable - it looks like we'll discover that soon enough. Chime in as usual if you know more about it.

Goodbye Kolonaki...

Yeah, it's been a long time comin'
ReplyDeleteI had the rare fortune to be the very first customer of the new Moonstruck, stumbling in at 7:30 this morning. My impressions: service, friendly; portion, appropriate; price, r-r-reasonable.
ReplyDeleteMy eggs and sausage were perfectly tasty, and though my "grapefruit" juice looked and tasted suspiciously like "orange," it was clearly fresh-squeezed, and included in my breakfast special. Fine by me.
And the rye toast--extraordinary.
So far these guys are one for one with me.
Suwweet Sen - glad you had a good experience. I too want to try it soon.
ReplyDeleteI ate there two times already and am very pleased. They combined the Ethos and Kolonaki spaces and made them into one restaurant. The two rooms have different looks; one rustic with a bar/counter, and the other contemporary and open feel. The food and service was very good, and they deliver! I definitely plan on being a regular there!
ReplyDeleteAwesome Anon - glad to hear about your great experience. I can't wait to try it myself.
