The old Lava Cafe is no longer, I noticed last week and will now be called Sandro's Latin Food. Meg told me about it last week and I took notice of it too when I was in the neighborhood. Not sure yet when it's going to open but a Latin food restaurant will be welcome on 23rd Avenue, which is heavily populated with Greek tavernas and Italian restaurants. I hope it's an authentic Latin food joint, serving some interesting homemade concotions. I don't know more at this point, but please holler if you do.

hot tip- there's a new Latin place on Steinway between Broadway and 34th, right near the train station. The name escapes me but it has a maroon awning.

ReplyDeleteit's called la cocina or something like that. mexican joint. nothing has lasted very long in that space in the past 7 years. i have the menu, but have yet to try it. it's in the spot the taco truck people had.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure about the location? I thought the taco truck storefront was a couple spots down. Ah well, doesn't matter, I had a tasty takeout experience at La Cocina, it's worth trying.
