Trattoria El Greco is now Via Trenta
I was surprised the other day when I saw a new sign pop up at the not-yet-a-year-old Trattoria El Greco. Given that this pizzeria opened up so recently and already has a different name and management is quite the bummer. The new name, which literally means "30th Avenue" in Italian may not be all too different. I'm still digging into the backstory of this place, and it looks like it may be a little while before they open, but if anyone knows what's up, feel free to give a shout on this page.
The trend of these generic "30th" names seems to be spreading, as the previous, Akti is now going to be called "Bar 30 Lounge," which hasn't yet open. I'll keep a close eye on both places and report back.
Via Trenta - 36-19 30th Avenue, Astoria NY 11103
N/Q Train to 30th Avenue
Opening Soon!
Update!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was walking by last night I noticed that the paper was removed from the windows and the restaurant was in full operation. I walked in to take a peek and was greeted by a younger gentlemen who informed me it was the soft opening and it was friends and family only, but he offered to let me try some of the food that was spread out for guests. It was fantastic, and clear that the new management knows what they're doing, and after further conversation I was told the new ownership has another location in Manhattan.
The decor is nicer than the previous restaurant (more rustic, less wannabe club) with wine bottles scattered about, a big communal table and a wood burning oven in the back.
They also had a pretty limited but very well selected beer menu (4 drafts and 10ish? bottles) and some very interesting wines. Menu looks awesome also.
I was told they were opening from 6-11pm Tuesday Nov, 8 and I'm planning on going back for the real thing next chance I get.
Just left and the food is amazing. They have a Wood burning oven. Had the tuna tartare with hearts of palm and avocado and the salsiccia pizza. Great crust and quality ingredients. The owner of via trenta is the same owner as Giovanni 25 in NYC. Definitely going back...
