Queens has a Cromuff?
For those of you who know me, can vouch for how enamored I get with the hybrid foods that have been the trend so far this year in NY. Exhibit a). The Cronut. Exhibit b). The Ramen Burger. And now, exhibit c). The Cromuff. I've named the third one myself, as I noticed it yesterday as it was calling my name at the Teaspoon Bake Shop in Bayside. Always enjoying a visit to this cheery neighborhood bakery, it boasts high quality sweets that often push the envelope in dessert innovation. Their signature cake balls are a prime example of this, and remain one of the best things on the menu. But for now, back to the Cromuff...
The Croissant Muffin (aka Cromuff) - I noticed this delicacy while shopping for macarons and cake balls yesterday, and I simply couldn't leave it in the shop. Just like its name suggests, it looked like a muffin, boasting a fat top and a slimmer base, but its exterior very much resembled a croissant. Before I bought it, I asked a few questions, and the friendly staff informed me that it's indeed a hybrid treat, which contains all the flaky layers and the sweet buttery dough that goes along with a croissant.
Taking the plunge and buying one of these was a smart decision, as the promise of this treat was completely fulfilled with each bite. The cromuff, as I'm calling it, pulled apart easily in four sections, so it was nice to share with someone. Loving the crackly outside and the soft, buttery middle, it was simpler to eat than a croissant and a lot more fun to look at. Even though it didn't need anything else on it, I added a modest schmear of all natural crunchy peanut butter that totally completed this already delightful experience.
Service and Costs:
At only $2.25 a pop, these babies are not only easier to come by than a Cronut, they're cheaper too. The staff was helpful and pleasant, and the whole experience was stress free and crowd free, too.
