Celebrating The Game of Thrones with Homemade Lemon Cakes

It's my favorite time in April, as today marked the premiere of the Game of Thrones series on HBO. Besides really getting into the characters and the story line, the distinctive food is also a big draw.  Knowing that my friends Sonya and Moses would be hosting a viewing party today, I decided to debut the show's legendary lemon cakes for its premiere.

Proven to be Sansa Stark's favorite dessert and generally a big indulgence in those times, I couldn't wait to have a go at them myself.  Finding a nice, simple recipe on The Inn at the Crossroads blog
(aka the official food blog of the Game of Thrones), I made the modern version of these lemon cakes, each one sporting a lovely candied lemon slice on top.

Very happy with the results, I managed to get several compliments tonight from my friends and even from a few people I haven't met previously, leading me to believe they were truly legit. Although the process to make these zesty cakes can get a little finicky, I promise you it's worth it.
