Homemade Mango, Rolled Oat Smoothie
Starting my day very differently yesterday, I decided to make a healthy, fresh fruit smoothie before my weekly yoga class. What was very different about this drink from what I usually have in a smoothie is that it was dairy free - using almond milk instead of regular. Incorporating a whole fresh mango Dan and I bought on Sauvie Island last weekend, the smoothie used all natural ingredients and tasted very earthy and healthful. A small scoop of rolled oats and cinnamon sealed the deal for me, with the former giving it a hearty quality that did a great job of filling me up.
You can substitute with the fruit of your choice and I'd imagine that bananas, strawberries or melon would be tasty too. Here's the very simple recipe I used, courtesy of Women's Health magazine:
Homemade Mango Oat Smoothie Recipe (serves 1)
Combine 1/2 cup of ice, 1 cup of almond milk, 1 cup of cubed mango, 1/4 cup of rolled oats, and 1/2 tsp of cinnamon in a blender and puree until smooth.
